Environmentalists are still working on a lab meat product that would reduce our dependence on conventional livestock for food, and Mark Post's $345,000 petri dish hamburger is the latest development. Post created the meat from stem cells obtained from animal parts that livestock processing facilities would normally throw away, according to Inhabitat, but he acknowledges that his early results aren't exactly mouthwatering.
"It's not very tasty yet. That's not a trivial thing, and it needs to be worked on," Post told Reuters. While the $345,000 petri dish hamburger is too exorbitant to be feasible right now, he hopes that time -- and a more streamlined creation process -- will help bring the price of lab meat down.
