Peppermint is the universal holiday flavor for everyone. It's beautiful as well as cool and flavorful. Peppermint is more than just a candy cane however. We of course love the candy cane, but add a bit of chocolate, and we are in totally love with this cool and delightful taste.
Did you know that Peppermint can't be grown from seed? Many times mint plants are mislabeled as peppermint, while true peppermint is usually grown from cuttings and is much different looking from it's milder mint cousins. If you do have peppermint plants, don't grow them with other mints, or they will cross pollinate and become a tasty, but mixed mint for ever.
Peppermint also soothes the stomach. A simple cup of peppermint tea can provide relief from overindulging-as we are so often guilty of doing during the holidays.
Peppermint can also be grown in water without any gardening needed. As long as you have a sunny window, you can place a couple of sprigs of peppermint into a glass of water and it will continue to grow for months. Check out your local produce center, and see if they sell cuttings of fresh herbs. You can buy one packet and grow an endless supply in your kitchen window.
Here are some delightful recipes that all use peppermint as a main ingredient. See if there is something you may want to whip up in time for your holiday festivities. Enjoy!
