Over the weekend, a TwitPic appeared (the picture has since gone down, but lives on in Internet infamy) allegedly showing an obviously racist sign at a McDonald's restaurant. It was tagged #seriouslymcdonalds and quickly made the rounds over Twitter.
The sign reads, "African-American customers are now required to pay an additional fee of $1.50 per transaction" because of a recent string of robberies in the area. Anyone who called the 1-800 number at the bottom of the sign was sent to a KFC Customer Satisfaction hotline.
Mashable reached out to McDonald's and got a response from them about the sign, "The sign is obviously a hoax. As a company and a brand we have a long and proud history of diversity inclusion across our system on both sides of the counter. From our management crew, franchisees — across the board, we’re very proud of our record of diversity. This is unfortunately an example of how rumors can outspeed the truth. Over the last 48 hours we’ve been tweeting and striving to clarify that this is a hoax.”
What do you think of this fake sign?
