Question: What is the recipe for the Mediterranean Quinoa
September 1, 2010
I bought a 10.5 oz container of Mediterranean Quinoa. There is a sticker saying what it is. But, no telling how to cook it. I'm assuming I need to boil water--how much. How long do I cook it? cover it? Any other ing. I need to add?
Thank you,
Chuch

I'm assuming the quinoa is a dried grain and not prepared? Dried would be on the pasta aisle on a shelf- prepared would be in the refrigerator case.
Mediterranean Quinoa may mean that it contains spices that make it Mediterranean- (maybe olives, lemon spices ect?)
If the quinoa is dried- (not refrigerated) then yes, you do need to add liquid.
For dry quinoa- use a twice as much liquid as the grain. So if you use 1 cup of quinoa -use 2 cups of liquid and boil the quinoa - then simmer on medium heat, until all of the liquid is gone.
You can use chicken or vegetable stock, orange juice, or water to cook the quinoa.
I suspect that your quinoa is pre-cooked. It has a somewhat dry texture and can be heated or eaten cold right out of the container, if it is. It's a great protein and can be added to salad or to served with your favorite meat.

Using your computer, google Quinoa and read all about it. Do a Quinoa search here on Foodista. Google the company that made the product you purchased and ask them about it. Open one of your cookbooks and see what they say. 'Mediterranean Quinoa' is a generic label. Kind of like 'Italian Pasta' would be. It can be served hot or cold. Served as a starch, a pilaf or like rice. It can be an ingredient in a cold salad and a hundred different ingredients can be added to create that salad. It is a really unique ingredient that is lots of fun to use and eat.
