A classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich is so easy to prepare at home there is no reason to buy them prepackaged. Unsophisticook has developed a method to recreate the famed Uncrustables peanut butter and jelly sandwich at home.
There are two major reasons that make an Uncrustables sandwiches appeal to kids and parents. First, they are convenient. Having something in the freezer at all times that you know your kids will eat is a must. Second, these sandwiches are crustless. Kids and crusts have been quarreling for decades. I am not sure what the fight is about but when a sandwich is sporting a crust, kids find it inedible. While compelling, these reasons do not justify the price tag. therefore; it's more cost effective to make this copycat version.
There are a few important steps to consider when making homemade Uncrustables. When putting together your PB&J sandwich, a thin layer of peanut butter should be on each side of the bread before spreading on the jelly. The peanut butter acts as sealant so that when the sandwiches defrost, they don't get soggy. This is the same for peanut butter and honey sandwiches. Also, you need the right sandwich cutter. The recipe suggests using a Wonder Bread Sealer N Decruster because it seals the sandwiches while also producing the least amount of waste.
These homemade Uncrustables are just as good as the original and your kids will love them just as much. To view full recipe instructions, click here.
