Crazy Good Copycat Chick-fil-A Sandwiches with a Gluten-Free option

July 24, 2014

Chick-fil-A became a famous fast food restaurant chain because of their crispy chicken sandwiches.  The Wicked Spatula has a dynamite copycat recipe that will save you a trip through the drive-thru.  Also, it's a healthier option too despite the deep fried chicken breast.  A quick look at the ingredient list shows MSG, artificial flavors, high fructose corn syrup, tertiary butylhydroquinone, just to name a few.

According to the recipe headnotes, there are two key steps to executing this sandwich successfully.  First, the chicken breasts should marinate in dill pickle juice for several hours before they are breaded and deep fried.  Second, a few tablespoons of powdered sugar are mixed with the flour to add a touch of sweetness to the breading.

For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free buns and a gluten-free breading mix using cornstarch and other gluten-free flours.  If you feel like eating the deluxe version of the crispy chicken sandwich, simply add lettuce, tomato and a slice of pepper jack cheese.  For full recipe instructions, click here.
