Urban areas are now booming with backyard and roof top gardens, CSAs, food trucks, and cafes serving seasonal produce. The focus on locally produced food is being taken to the next level as more and more city dwellers are raising bees and making honey. It's a sweet idea, as honey has been used medicinally for thousands of years. While, I believe that all sweeteners should be used in moderation, raw honey does contain plenty of beneficial enzymes and is loaded with B vitamins (coincidence?).
Think you'd like a hive of your own? Check out this video via the Brooklyn Brainery. They have turned hundreds of urban citizens into avid beekeepers. The importance of bees cannot be overlooked, where there are gardens there needs to be bees. These hives are a perfect compliment to the budding urban farms sprouting up everywhere.
