Mercedes Zambrano and her family were like the "Partridge Family" of the South American gatherings at the Kensington Bowling Club in Australia, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
So when the caterer dropped out for a Latin-American food and dance event at the Bowling club, Mrs. Zambrano was asked make the food.
But when 50 people fell ill with salmonella because of a bad batch of eggs in November 2009, Mrs. Zambrano was fined $9,600 and required to pay $11,000 in costs. To add further embarrassment she was also placed on the Food Authority's name-and-shame list.

Because she was technically making money off of the food, Mrs. Zambrano was classified as a business. The club wants no part of the mess, so the family is trying to put together the money for the fines.
