My first experience with this regional treat was a checkout counter in southern Maine. I am not sure about how healthy they were, but those were some amazing whoopie pies. They were light and fluffy, the size of saucers. Since then, I have been on a quest to recreate the whoopie pie on my own terms, which means experimentation. Here are 5 whoopie pies that will be a sure hit in your house.
Classic Whoopie Pie
Not your stale little Moonpie in cellophane, this is the classic Whoopie Pie, and the only place to start your schooling.
Fruit Loop Whoopie Pie
Don't be deceived by the name. These are handmade and full of unexpected flavor explosions from the lime filling.
Pumpkin Whoopie Pie
This spiced up recipe is a nice change of pace. Surprise your lunchbox crew with this updated treat.
Oatmeal Whoopie Pie
I am not sure about you, but putting oatmeal into a dessert makes it feel healthier to me. That is my story and I'm sticking to it.
Raspberry Lemon Whoopie Pie
These babies are going to find their way onto my farmers market table. In a word: Ohmygod.
