  • Pepper(optional)
  • 3-4 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 teaspoons Sugar
  • 1 cup Hominy grits
  • 1 teaspoons Salt
  • 5 cups Water

Step 1

Bring water to boil and add salt.

30-40 minutes

Add grits, 1/4 cup at a time, and stir constantly. When all the grits have been added, reduce heat and simmer covered, stirring grits occasionally to prevent sticking.

When all the water has been absorbed and the grits are done, add the sugar and butter and stir.

Step 4

Serve the grits in a bowl, adding freshly ground pepper to taste and additional salt and butter if desired.
