NOTES : Sue has made this for me several times in the course of our friendship. She made it for Bill and me when we visited her home in Illinois for a weekend last year. Bill doesn't go anywhere. It is to the credit of Sue, Ray and their sons that he went to Illinois. They gratiously welcomed us into the warmth of their family. There were no pretenses. We shared their ordinary family rituals. We shared their meals, played games together, heard stories of school and scouts. There is a bond you can almost feel in that family. It is a bond that was earned. When Sue and Ray were newlyweds, within a year's time, she needed a spleenectomy for a rare blood disorder, and he needed a laminectomy after a serious car accident. She has since undergone a lumpectomy for a breast malignancy. They were always there for each other during these trying times. That's what life is about.
