It has different meanings in different circumstances- but AS PURCHASED, might be the most relevant for you. (Maybe) :)

When a recipe asks you to add a can of this or that, most of the time you drain the excess liquid from the can.
The can not yet drained of liquid is called AP
The can drained of water or liquid is called EP
It makes a difference in most recipes
