Vanilla, which means "little pod", is a member of the orchid family comprising over 100 different species, originally found in Central America. Today vanilla is grown throught Central and South America, as well as in the South Pacific and tropical areas of the Indian Ocean. The world largest producer of vanilla is the island of Madagascar, followed by Indonesia.
