If they're very soft- putting them in the fridge won't hurt them for a few days. If they need a tiny bit more ripening- put them on the counter- but check on them every day or two. On the counter- they'll continue to ripen.
You can also make a fig jam or compote with them. Fig crumble? .......

Like most other fruits. If they aren't yet ripe to your satisfaction keep them at room temperature. When they approach your ripeness wish...put them in the fridge to slow any more ripening. Figs are good!!
