Navajo Frybread

Ingredients

1 1/4 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon powdered milk
1/2 cup warm water
1 1/2 cups oil (for frying)

Preparation

1
Mix flour, baking powder, salt and powdered milk together in a large bowl.
2
Stir in warm water. Mix and knead with hands for 5 minutes until a soft dough forms. Let dough stand for 30 minutes.
3
Divide dough into 10 pieces. Roll each piece in hands into a smooth ball.
4
Pat dough ball into flat circle - 3/4 inch thick. Turn and pull dough until about 8 inches in diameter.
5
Heat oil in skillet. Fry dough circles one at a time, dropping each circle carefully into the hot oil. The dough will brown quickly and puff up. Turn and brown the other side.
