Those who tuned in to "Bar Rescue" on Spike TV last night were treated to the smiling face of Domenico Centofanti (above) and the shocking conditions of his Philadelphia pub, Downey's Irish Pub and Restaurant. The pub, located on Front and South Streets, had a host of health infractions, including decomposing rat carcasses and food stored next to a trash room.
Although "Bar Rescue" host and restaurant consultant Jon Taffer was able to raise revenue by 15 percent following a makeover and intensive cleanup, Philly.com reports that the show's efforts were too late to save the bar. Downey's owes the city of Philadelphia $125,881 in taxes and millions more to Wells Fargo. The bar and its assets will be sold on Aug. 2 and Aug. 12, respectively, to pay off these debts.
