Grandma's Baked Beans

Ingredients

1 pound dry navy beans, soaked over night
1/4 cup sugar
salt and pepper to taste
cooked bacon for garnish

Preparation

Boil beans for 1-1/2 hour, until skins curl when you blow on them

Drain and place in mixing bowl

Add all the ingredients except bacon and mix well;

Pour into baking dish and topp with cooked bacon slices, cover with foil and bake 1 hour; remove foil and bake for another 1/2 hour or until beans are tender. Serve with vinegar on the side!

About

this is a recipe that has been passed down through the generations. They came from my Mom's side of the family and usually only one person per generation makes them. I am the bean maker for the family and I bake them in my great, great Grandmother's roasting pan. Nothing else gets cooked in that pan. They are a great recipe and surprisingly delicious! Us Hungarians eat them with cider vinegar!
