Copycat Recipes: Starbucks Peppermint Mocha

Starbucks holiday drinks are a long awaited specialty menu that fans can't seem to get enough of.  While a daily trip to Starbucks may seem convenient but it can get pricey fast.  In reality, making your own version of your favorite Starbucks holiday drink can save you time and money.  This copycat recipe for their famed peppermint mocha tastes exactly like the original complete with whipped cream and peppermint snow.  If you prefer the white chocolate peppermint mocha, you can omit the cocoa powder and sugar and melt two white chocolate truffles into the coffee.  Depending on who sweet you like your coffee, you might want to stir in a teaspoon or two of sugar.  Enjoy homemade peppermint mochas throughout the entire holiday season and well after Christmas has passed.

Copycat Starbucks Peppermint Mocha
Makes 1 drink

Ingredients: 

Peppermint Mocha:
1 cup of milk (whole, 2%, or 1% all work in this recipe)
1 cup of coffee
1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons sugar
2 to 3 tablespoons of peppermint syrup
chopped candy canes (peppermint snow), for garnish
whipped cream, for garnish

Peppermint Syrup:
1 cup water
1 cup water
2 teaspoons peppermint extract
