This video from YouTube user MeMyselfAndMovies demonstrates the mechanisms behind a candy dispenser he built when he was 12 or 13 years old. He built the candy machine entirely out of LEGOs.
The LEGO candy machine dispenses M&Ms and Skittles from two separate compartments. It was carefully designed to only accept nickels and reject all other coins.
