NASA Giving Away Space Food

September 12, 2011

Now that the United States Space Shuttle program has ended, NASA has begun giving away artifacts like astronaut meals to schools and universities on a first-come first-serve basis. There are 350 dehydrated, "not for consumption" meals that will be given out.

"Not only are we preserving a critical part of our nation's history, but we are reusing government property in an unexpected way by giving these NASA artifacts a second life in our nation's schools,"  Steven J. Kempf, commissioner of the General Service Administration's Federal Acquisition Service, said.

Each package of food will contain an entree, dessert and drink. Shipping and handling runs $28.03.
