The Yelp Elite Squad, a hand picked group of top reviewers for the site Yelp.com, have evolved into a bit of a group of foodie thugs shrouded in mystery. Sort of Skull and Bones meets Zagat. The Yelp Elite Squad is selected by a mysterious body within Yelp known as The Council, which doesn't divulge it's selection process or criteria.
But what's interesting is that this crew of online restaurant reviewers, which industry insiders guess is thousands of people strong, now has the power to make or break a business, according to a new article from Business Week.
What's really funny about the article that digs into the secret world of the Yelp Mafia, are the accounts from unassuming waiters and chefs who are subjected to much more than just bad reviews from the Yelp Elite Squad.
