Fraudster Madoff's Wine Collection To Be Auctioned

May 8, 2011

Bernie Madoff, who was convicted of a Ponzi scheme in 2008, was quite the wine aficionado, with a small but notable collection focusing on Bordeaux. The collection was seized by U.S. Marshals, and is now going to be auctioned off by Morrell and Company in New York with all proceeds going towards the compensation of Madoff's victims. Not all of the wines are intrinsically valuable, but as Decanter noted, "are better viewed as conversation pieces." The live auction for these historical wines is scheduled for May 18th.
