An upcoming exhibit called The Lady Cheese Shop by Miriam Simun will debut three varieties of human cheese made from three breast milk donors -- paired with wine and local cuisine, of course. The unusual art installation aims to get visitors thinking about biotechnology and urban food production as it pertains to our current food systems.
"Food is a site of contention and revolution," Simun writes on her website. "Humans are the only animals to harvest and consume other species' milk. This milk is neither created for human digestion, nor particularly healthy for human consumption, nor always kind to the animals we harvest and milk."
Visitors can experience all phases of the human cheese production process at the exhibit, from the original project proposal to the delectable end product. The Lady Cheese Shop at the Michael Mut Gallery in New York City is hosting its opening tasting event on Thursday, April 28 and will run through the evening of Sunday, May 1.
