About
Chutney is a condiment made of chopped fruit and vegetables and spices, similar to a relish or salsa. There are many varieties of chutneys ranging from spicy to sweet, though most also have a sour element as well. Chutneys originated in India, and British colonists brought them to the west and adapted them to their own cuisine. Over time, chutneys have evolved to feature local ingredients, such as apples, peaches, beets or tomatoes.
