Pilsner

Pilsner is one of the youngest beer styles in the world. It was originally brewed in Plzen, Czech in 1842 and was an immediate hit. Many breweries have recreated the beer and used the name Pilsner, which is the name of the brewery where it was originally brewed, to describe the style.

This is easily the most popular style of beer in the world. Pilsner is brewed all over the world. Breweries from Beijing to Rio de Janeiro and Anchorage to London produce the clean pale brew and why wouldn't they? The style commands better then half of the beer market world wide.

As with some many good things in this world, simplicity is the key to Pilsner's success. Lightly kilned malted barley, spicy Noble hops, lager yeast, and soft water are all that's needed for the skilled brewer to produce a fine pilsner. These ingredients combine for a clean, simple beer.

The head is white and dense and the body is straw colored. The aroma should contain hops with a hint of graininess. The flavor is simple with light grain and hops bittering. The finish is clean and refreshing.

One of the reasons for pilsner's popularity is that it pairs easily with many different foods. Roasted meat, chicken, and fish - though not so well with sushi. It goes nicely with spicy Indian or Mexican dishes as well as most Asian cuisines.
