Jenny Houlahan

Hi there! Welcome to ‘Fitness Health and Food,’ a site devoted to helping readers achieve a balance of wholesome nutrition, physical activity, and overall health. I’m Jenny, a 28-year-old fitness enthusiast and foodie living in Chicago with my wonderful husband Nick, our mutt pup Mosely, and our feral kitty Carmie.

I earned a B.S. in Recreation Management from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and a Culinary Arts Certificate from Washburne Culinary Institute here in Chicago. Over the past several years, I’ve worked as a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, line cook, health educator, cooking instructor, gym manager, and coach. Additionally, I have completed several post-Bachelor’s courses in nutrition, physiology, and health.

After participating in a several sports as a youngster, I now enjoy devising a variety of workouts to challenge myself in the great outdoors, gym, or living room. I also love training for and competing in endurance running and triathlon events and am currently training for the North Shore Half Marathon.

My other passion is cooking and I delight in creating recipes that offer new (and sometimes healthier) takes on classic comfort foods. Although I am not a vegetarian, I try to focus the majority of my meals around plants and other whole foods. Taking care of my body through healthy diet and regular exercise also helps me deal with depression and anxiety. You can read more about my experiences in the ‘In Depth Bio’ and ‘My Struggles’ sections below.

Thank you for visiting my little corner of the web and I hope that you will stop by again soon. Please let me know how ‘Fitness Health and Food’ can best benefit you and your quest for a healthy, happy balance by posting comments or sending suggestions by email to fitnesshealthandfood@gmail.com.
