The Perfect Valentine's Day Heart Cake

February 13, 2015

Earlier this week, Foodista shared some of our favorite heart shaped treats for Valentine's Day.  However, Cleobuttera's "Love is all Around" cake roll wins the blue ribbon.  Not only is it fun, festive, and delicious but it is a special dessert that even a novice baker can prepare.  Sure, we like a professionally decorated cake coated in fondant and gold leaf as much as the next foodie but it is impractical for the everyday home cook.  Best of all, this recipe is made with boxed cake mix so that the baker can focus on the assembly and decorating as opposed to measuring a dozen ingredients.  The outside cake roll is baked with tiny chocolate hearts while the inside holds a large pink cake heart layered with whipped cream cheese frosting.  Once your special someone lays eyes on this homemade creation, it will literally take their breath away.
