Beef Puff Pastry

Ingredients

2 boxs Puff Pastry sheets (4 sheets)
1 tablespoon butter, unsalted
1 lg potato, diced
1 pound ground beef (I used 93/7)
1/2 onion, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 garlic clove, minced
dashes of dried sage
1 egg white for wash

Preparation

1
Thaw out puff pastry according to box (usually takes about 40 minutes)
2
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
3
Add butter to medium sauce pan on medium heat
4
When butter is melted add potatoes and cook for 5 minutes
5
In another sauce pan over medium heat add the ground beef and cook until brown
6
When you add the meat to sauce pan add the onions to potatoes and continue to stir
7
When potatoes start to soften up add salt, pepper, garlic, and sage; stir the mixture
8
Add the browned beef to potato and onion mixture and mix it up
9
Set aside on no heat
10
Lay out thawed puff pastry and divide each sheet into 6 individual pieces
11
Scoop the meat mixture and place it in the center of 3 individual pieces and top with other side
12
Use a fork to pierce the edges of the puff pastry
13
Place each piece onto a baking sheet and repeat the above steps until the pastry sheets are used up
14
Pierce the top of the puff pastry 1-2 times so that the center gets cooked thoroughly
15
Brush with egg white so that it comes out a nice golden brown color
16
Cook for 18 minutes and then remove and flip the pastries over and cook for an additional 8-12 minutes or until golden brown
17
Both sides need to be a nice golden brown color

About

I lived in London a couple of years ago and one weekend I went to Cornwall. Cornwall is known for their amazing pasties. It's a very simple recipe that consists of bread filled with meat, potatoes and onion. I decided that tonight I would make a different version using a puff pastry. This would be perfect for dinner or you could make smaller versions and serve as an appetizer. ENJOY!
