Opies
One of the oldest private family-owned food companies in the UK, Opies first began life as Bennett Opie back in 1880 – founded by the eponymous Cornishman who set off to make his fortune in London with just £5 in his pocket.
Bennett initially began by selling bacon and eggs, aided by his brothers Richard and Samuel, and business started to boom. In 1912 the venture was so prosperous that he founded a private company, Bennett Opie Limited.
