Our take on Kentucky, Bourbon and Mint Juleps
Ingredients
4 fresh mint sprigs
2 1/2 oz Maker's Mark Handcrafted Bourbon
1 tsp Maple Sugar or Orange Vanilla Sugar
2 tsp water
Preparation
1
Muddle mint leaves, sugar, and water in a glass (if you can find a metal one it keeps the ice from melting).
2
Fill the glass with crushed ice (not ice cubes, a better flavor will be produced from the jagged edges for coarse crushed ice) and add bourbon.
3
Top with more ice and garnish with a mint sprig.
4
Ideally serve in a silver cup with a straw.

About
Loretto is ironically in a dry county. The Samuels Family was drawn to this place because it was home of the Burk Distillery originally built in 1889. A limestone filtered spring resides on the property providing water and the appropriate mineral content for bourbon. This is where Marker's Mark barrel ages its product 6 to 7 years, but it is deemed ready for consumption when a sample from the barrel tastes just right. It's our favorite sour mash to toast the run for the roses.
