3 Disturbing Health Studies

August 26, 2011

When bad news comes, it usually comes in waves, right? Well, it certainly seems that way with some recently released health information.

1) Half of Adults Will Be Obese by 2030: A report out in the Lancet shows that half of all American adults will be obese by 2030, unless current food consumption patterns change. The report suggests campaigns to lower the costs of healthy foods and taxes on unhealthy ones.

2) College students aren't eating enough fruits and veggies: A new survey of college students reveals that they are not eating anywhere close to the recommended five servings of fruits and vegetables each day. In fact, most students aren't even eating one serving daily. On average, male college students eat five servings of fruits and vegetables each week, while females only eat four servings.

3) High Salt Diet Bad for the Brain: A new three-year study has linked a high sodium diet along with little exercise to cognitive decline in patients. High salt diets and low exercise lifestyles have been linked to poor heart performance in the past, but this is the first study to link them to brain problems as well.
