Question: Can I substitute grape jam for apricot preserves in a barbeque sauce recipe?

You can- though I'm not sure if you'd want grape jam on meats like chicken- too sweet. Apricot will be sweet but fruity.

I agree, why not? Both are sweet and fruity. I like to think of recipes as a guide and sometimes you have to punt if you don't have exactly what it called for. This is how happy accidents in cooking occur!

There is no reason why you can't. I'm assuming there are a bunch of ingredients in the BBQ sauce along with the preserves? It's not like you're spreading grape jelly over grilled meat.

I enjoy making homemade BBQ sauces and have played with just about every type of ingredient in the icebox! I have used Apple Jelly, Peach Preserves, Fig Preserves, Grape Jelly, even Lemon Curd...all have turned out a tasty sauce. Go for it!
