Thirsty Thursday: McIntosh Apple Mulled Wine

When the nights are bitter cold, there's nothing better than a hot cocktail to warm you up. Whether you're coming off the ski slopes, been shoveling snow, or just need a warm pick-me-up this drink is sure to do the trick. This isn't your regular mulled wine recipe. This one combines fresh McIntosh apple, maple syrup and almonds along with aromatic spices to create a libation that is sensuous and delicious. Here's to staying warm the right way.

McIntosh Apple Mulled Wine
By Dark Horse Wine

Ingredients:
1 Bottle Dark Horse Big Red Blend
6 Cinnamon Sticks, broken apart
1 Teaspoon All Spice berries
1 Teaspoon Cloves
1 McIntosh Apple, chopped up
3 ounces Grade B Maple syrup
1/4 Cup sliced Almonds

Instructions:
Place all spices in a pot. Break the spices up with the back of a large spoon or muddler.

Add the chopped apple and turn stovetop on to medium heat.

Heat the spices and apple for 1 minute and then add the wine and maple syrup. Stir well. Right before its about to boil, bring the heat down to low and let simmer for 45 minutes. Add almonds and stir well.

To serve, ladle 5 ounces of mulled wine into desired mug or glass and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
