’Tis the season for gingerbread, and also for luxuriously long and well-deserved warm breakfasts. Waffles are a favored every-now-and-then treat; these gingerbread waffles from Forkful of Awesome are the definition of special. Cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and molasses lift gingerbread from dessert item to breakfast must-have, topped with your favorite butter or maple syrup.
Ingredients:
2 cup flour
2 tbsp cornmeal
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp ground cloves
1 3/4 cups buttermilk*
2 eggs, separated
2 tbsp molasses
4 tbsp butter, melted
salted butter and real maple syrup for serving
