Each year at Christmas my grandma Ida would cook up candy shop-sized batches of sweet, crunchy treats. Sometimes it was peanut brittle, other times her famous chocolate-topped almond toffee. On Christmas eve, we were allowed to open just one gift and we'd lightly shake each present under the tree until we found the one bearing Grandma's candy. Then we'd eat and eat until Mom sequestered the box.
Studded with pistachios, peanuts, hazelnuts, pepitas, or almonds, this candy remains a favorite of mine to this day and makes a great holiday gift. Enjoy some of these stunning recipes below.
