The Ben & Jerry's location in Harvard Square recently released a tweaked version of the limited-edition flavor dedicated to Harvard-alum-turned-NBA-sensation Jeremy Lin called "Taste the Lin-Sanity." The original recipe featured vanilla frozen yogurt, lychee honey swirls and fortune cookie pieces, according to Boston.com, but the new recipe ditches the fortune cookie pieces and includes a waffle cookie on the side for dipping.
Did Ben & Jerry's have to 86 the fortune cookie pieces because they were potentially culturally insensitive? "There seemed to be a bit of an initial backlash about it, but we obviously weren't looking to offend anybody and the majority of the feedback about it has been positive," said Ryan Midden, the general manager of Ben & Jerry's Boston and Cambridge. Midden added that the real reason the ingredients were swapped out was because "a couple of [pints] got returned because the cookies got so soggy."
