Anti-Foaming Agent Found in McNuggets

June 28, 2011

OK, let's be honest, no one thinks that chicken McNuggets are a health food, but some might still assume that the ingredients are made up of actual foods. In addition to containing autolyzed yeast extract, bleached flour, and sodium phosphates, they also contain an anti-foaming agent!

According to McDonald's own website, Chicken McNuggets are made with "hydrogenated soybean oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness" and "Dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent."

In my mind, this goes beyond "of course fast food isn't healthy". The question is WHY are such chemicals even allowed in the food supply in the first place? We are at a tipping point where real food is becoming an endangered species. So, even if you don't eat at the golden arches, be sure to always read the labels on packaged foods, including those labeled organic.
