Celebrity Chef David Chang, and proprieter of NYC's famed Momofuku, is behind a new foodie magazine that hits newstands today, Lucky Peach. Momofuku is Japanese for "Lucky Peach."
Picking up where Gourmet magazine, which was shuttered in 2009, left off with a bit more edge for a younger generation of foodies, Lucky Peach promises a whole new approach for food and food writing.
Chang, in collaboration with Momofuku cookbook collaborator Peter Meehan, has put out an inagural issue stuffed with the finest names in food including former Gourmet Editor Ruth Reichel and Celebrity Chef and TV host Anthony Bourdain. The theme of the first issue is ramen, and includes straight-forward food information like a chart of a slow-cooked egg showing the degrees of runniness.
The Lucky Peach cover, rather than flashy, glossy food porn, has a photo of a whole chicken going into a pot that looks like it's marked up by hand. Certainly a departure from fussy, over-styled food porn of the past.
Lucky Peach is published by McSweeny's and will be published quarterly.
