2.3 Tons of Beverages Destroyed on Health Fears in Taiwan

June 11, 2011

Following global bans on a beverage made in Taiwan because it contains a chemical, DEHP, Taiwan was forced to jettison 2.3 tons of the stuff into a waste treatment plant on Saturday.

DEHP is a plsticizer that was added to the beverages to intensify color, but has been found to harm boys' fertility. Lucklily, there haven't been any reports of bad affects from the beverages.

Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou has called on better food safety in the country after the drinks were destroyed.
