Tropical drinks have sort of a bad reputation, but the early recipes lend themselves well to the current cocktail fad. They were originally intended to be carefully assembled concoctions with exotic nectars, handcrafted syrups, and secret ingredients.

This smoothie is healthy, creamy, tasty and nutritious. It is made from homemade pumpkin purée with love.

My favorite beer cocktail as days start to get longer and warmer is the Chelada, a drink popular in Mexico. Recipes vary, but it’s a fairly simple affair that melds typically light Mexican lager with lime and savory ingredients.

The Brooklyn is essentially a 19th century-style Manhattan subbing dry vermouth for sweet and calling for a specific brand of bitters. Light, herbal and a little bit floral with a boozy backbone,

Welcome the Jalapeno Margarita. Flavored with a sweet, tart, spicy syrup, made with half cider vinegar and half sugar, I’m bringing the spirit of the Shrub to this cocktail.

It’s just as simple as the classic Caipirinha with the addition of some kiwi chunks during the muddling stage. The flavor is crisp and delicious with the kiwi flavor solid and harmonious with the lime and cachaça.

I make smoothies with yogurt almost every day for my kids. It’s probably the healthiest thing they eat and they love it. I sneak some ground flax seed meal in there for a touch more protein and lots of omega-3′s.

At first, I couldn’t decide which drink to make. In the end, I decided simplicity was best, and opted for the sleek, streamlined Martini.

To me there`s nothing that tells me more that the spring and summer is on the way than fresh strawberries. Granted there´s some time left until the summer is here and the strawberries i see in the shops are imported but just seeing them is at least a promise…

The latest cocktail to join the ranks of favorite bourbon cocktails is The Boulevardier. This drink is a rare gem considering it was created in the mid-1920s when bourbon was missing in action.

One of my favorite scenes from the original movie was when Charlie and Grandpa Joe get into the fizzy lifting drinks. So when I happened upon the fizzy lifting drinks while reading the book - I instantly knew what I'd be making in honor of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Yummy...an ice cold, fruit-filled glass of sangria is a perfect summery drink, great for BBQs. I love making a big batch in a pitcher, it's pretty and delish.

Junior proms and graduation dances are a main topic of conversation among teenagers this time of year. If you are giving your young folks a party, plan on serving a sparkling, tangy fruit punch.

The Mezcal Mule, which combines Del Maguey’s Crema de Mezcal, the strawberry-habañero shrub, lime juice and Gosling’s ginger beer into a drink that perfectly balances mezcal’s smoke and earth with a fruity sweetness and peppery kick.

I am sure this drink is fabulous because the granita is phenomenal. It’s tart, yet sweet and refreshing with the addition of mint. It’s like a healthy slurpee, but so much more. These flavors really work well together and the natural violet/blue color is breathtaking. Don’t wait until spring to make this beautiful frozen dessert.

With warmer weather comes refreshing cocktails. One of my favorites is the Bourbon Smash, a surprisingly simple cocktail that takes bourbon, a dark spirit I rely upon heavily in the cooler months, and makes it into a light and refreshing cocktail.

I named the smoothie Plum Crazy Purple, after the 1970′s Dodge Challenger car color. It's made of Bananas. Blueberries, Strawberries and milk. But don't let the carbs and sugar scare you. It's all natural ingredients and all good for you!!!

The smell, the sensation, is intense and sweet. This is definitely the king of the Aperitif drinks!

Jessica makes the best pineapple infused tequila. This has been one of my favorite summer drinks, since trying it out last year. I don’t know where she got this from, but its tasty. Jessica says the secret is in finding the right pineapple. The riper the pineapple, the better.

The cocktail couldn’t be easier to put together. Simply mix rum, lime juice, simple syrup, and pomegranate juice in a glass and add crushed mint leaves. Done. The presentation is gorgeous as well, and with all that red and green who says it can’t be a holiday drink?

Lillet is a French aperitif wine that is a blend of french white wine and macerated citrus liqueurs (mostly from orange peels). Sounds delish, right? It is.

The other day, Duc bought some Domaine de Canton, which is a ginger liqueur. I had had it before when I was in school, and it is quite the tasty liqueur if you're a fan of ginger. It's got a great strong gingery taste but the sharpness is also smoothed out by the inclusion of vanilla syrup in the ingredients.

This float is full of creamy flavor from the ice cream and whipped cream (plus optional Bailey’s) then hits you with the very distinct Guinness flavor. A must try for Guinness and ice cream float lovers.

The recipe is typical of one of the new generation Cubo-Brazilian mojitos. Or should that be Brazo-Cuban? However it's described, it's wonderfully refreshing, light and not overly-alcoholic, and absolutely delicious.

If you’re planning to visit the town of Tequila, make sure you carve out some time to meet Don Javier, order up a Batanga, and listen to a few stories. Even if you don’t speak Spanish, it’s still a rewarding experience.
