The Little Ladies have a day off from school today due to teacher conferences. Our intent is to lunch along the Red Hook waterfront (therefore there will be no lunch post today) and spend some time outdoors before returning for a special treat.

The Manhattan Cocktail Classic will be featuring a number of variations on the classic Negroni. This spice-inflected version is the creation of Christy Pope and Chad Solomon of the beverage consulting firm Cuff and Buttons, and uses Marco Polo Tincture to add exotic spice notes.

Now that it is practically summer here in Greece, everywhere you look there are frappes. Whether you are passing by a coffee shop, there you will find many Greeks enjoying the sun and their frappes; whether shopping in a store or two, you are sure to find the workers sipping their frappes; or relaxing on the beach and savoring each sip.

When traveling, I frequently buy a few bottles of the local wines and/or spirits, seduced by their unavailability in Chicago. Especially when the dollar was stronger, vinous ballast would accumulate in my suitcases until the handles buckled and the seams began to unravel.

I thought I’d start with a simple smoothie recipe to get ya’ll in the mood for pollen, but there are many ways of incorporating these amazing golden granules into your daily diet. Sprinkle it on your morning cereal or lunch-time salad, top your desserts, add to salad dressing, or fold it into your raw food snacks (like The Raw Brownie perhaps?).
