- 6 tablespoons Water
- 4-6 ounces sultanas
- 2 ounces castor sugar
- 4 ounces margarine
- 1 pinch salt
- 8 ounces self-raising flour
- hot custard sauce or castor sugar (for serving)(optional)
Instructions
Step 1
Have ready a sheet of foil or a double thickness of greaseproof paper brushed with melted margarine.
Step 2
Make the pudding crust: Sieve the flour and the salt. Rub in the margarine. Add the sugar and sultanas. Mix in the water to make a soft dough.
Step 3
Turn out the dough onto a floured board and form it into a roll. Alternatively, for a pudding basin, put the mixture into a medium-sized (1.5 pint) pudding basin instead of forming a roll.
Step 4
If forming a roll, wrap it loosely but securely in the prepared greaseproof paper or foil. Tie or seal the ends.
Step 5
Place the pudding (either the wrapped roll or the pudding in its basin) in the steamer and cover tightly.
Step 6
Steam for 1.5 to 2 hours.
Step 7
Serve with hot custard sauce or sprinkle with castor sugar.
