Orange Lime Tequila Liqueur

Preparation

1
Crack open that bottle and pour out 2 cups.... start drinking now.
2
Using a fine grater, take zest of oranges and limes -- avoid rind... it is yucky!

Put the zest into the bottle of Tequila
4
Wait 4 weeks, turning daily to mix up the good bits.
5
Use a strainer to strain out the bits.
6
Use a coffee filter or a britta filter (better) to filter out any remaining sludge.
7
Mix the sugar and water over the stove at low heat until clear (this is a simple sugar syrup.)
8
Let simple syrup cool
9
Pour the simple syrup into the tequila bottle
10
Wait 4 weeks, turning daily.
11
Enjoy.

About

This is the most delicious liqueur I have ever had. It is fantastic! But I have to make one strong recommendation: pick a tequila that has no rum in it. Now I will have to digress. Every tequila you have ever had, ever, has been cut with rum. Next time you sip some fine expensive tequila, if you are looking for it you will taste it. This recipe is MUCH better if you can find a tequila with no rum. Tequilas that say 100% agave, just mean that the Tequila in it is made of Agave, but it will still have rum in it. So, 100% Agave means nothing. 100% Natural, on the other hand, surprisingly, usually means no rum. Do a search online for 100% Natural Tequila and you will see some brands. Use one of those as your base.

By the way, this make a great gift. Just pour some off into small bottles, make your own labels, and voila, a thoughtful homemade gift.
