Spicey Home Made Ginger Ale

Ingredients

2 cups sugar
2 cups water
1 large ginger root -- about 5" long

Preparation

Make a simple syrup:

Bring water and sugar to a boil

Chop ginger (need not be peeled)

Chop 1/2 jalapeno

Add both to syrup, boil 1 minute

Remove from heat, steep 6+ hrs

Strain ginger and pepper from syrup

Mix 1/2 c. ginger syrup per liter of sparking water

About

This is tasting ginger ale for the first time. The addition of the bit of jalapeno spikes the ginger flavor up just a bit -- it can be omitted for the spice-phobic, though it adds even more sophistication to this already elegant beverage. Easy too.
