First Place Banana Bread
Ingredients
1 3/4 cups self-rising flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
cup shortening
2/3 cup sugar
2 eggs, well beaten

Mash ripe bananas with a fork. Cream shortening and beat in sugar. Add eggs, mixing well. Mix and sift flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Add flour alternately with bananas, mixing well after each addition. Turn into greased loaf pan and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour (until the top of the loaf is brown). Let cool for 5 minutes in pan then turn out onto cooling rack.
