Gyro Sandwiches


1 1/4 pounds Lean ground beef
1 1/4 pounds Lean ground lamb
1/4 cup Oregano
1 1/2 tablespoons Onion powder
1 tablespoon Garlic powder
3/4 tablespoon Ground pepper (or more)
1 teaspoon Thyme
3/4 teaspoon Salt
For the Sauce:
1 cup Plain yogurt
1/4 cup Finely chopped onion
1/4 cup Finely chopped cucumber
2 teaspoons Olive oil
Garlic powder
Salt & white pepper
8 inches lrg Pita breads, cut half
Thinly sliced onion rings
Sliced Tomatoes


For patties: Preheat broiler or prepare barbeque. Combine beef, lamb, oregano, onion powder, garlic powder, pepper, thyme, and salt in large bowl. Mix well. Shape into 16 thin patties and broil, turning once, until done as desired.
For sauce: Combine the yogurt, onion, cucumber, & olive oil in small bowl. Add garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste.
To assemble sandwich, place 1 meat patty in each pita half and top with yogurt sauce, onion slices and tomato slices.
