Kid-Friendly Brownies

Ingredients

2 cups white sugar (can be reduced to 1-½ cups if you don’t want it too sweet)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract (I prefer to use Ferna’s chocolate flavocol)
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt

Preparation

Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and line two 8×8 inch baking pan.

Melt butter in a small saucepan. Transfer the melted butter in a mixing bowl.

Add eggs one at a time, making sure that it is well mixed after each addition.

Add cocoa, beat until well-blended.

Add flour, baking powder and salt. Beat until well-blended.

Pour into prepared pans (approximately 2 cups of batter for each pan).

Sprinkle chopped nuts on top.

Bake for 35 minutes or until the brownies begin to pull away from sides of the pan. If you want it slightly fudgy then remove the brownies from the oven after 25 minutes of baking.

Cool completely in pan. Cut into squares.

Brownie In A Bottle Version

In a bottle, starting at the bottom, layer the sugar, cocoa, flour, baking powder, salt, and chopped nuts (if the person you are giving the gift to is allergic to nuts then kindly exclude this). Cover tightly and place a ribbon.

Print out the following instruction and attach to the bottle using a ribbon or thread.

“Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and line two 8×8 inch pans. In a mixing bowl, pour 1 cup melted butter. Add the contents of this bottle alternately with 4 eggs, mixing well after each addition. Pour batter into prepared pans (approximately 2 cups of batter per pan). Bake for 35 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from the sides of the pan. Cool completely in pan. Cut into squares and serve. Makes 32 brownies.”
