Plain Cookie Dough

Ingredients
1/2 pound unsalted butter
1/2 pound margarine
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 lrg egg
1 tablespoon vanilla, extract
5 cups all purpose flour

Cream together butter, margarine and sugar

Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing just until combined Slowly mix in flourFor Checkerboard Cookies:Divide the dough into two, adding cocoa powder to one half. Divide each portion into two once more (leaving four quarters of dough: two plain, two chocolate). First roll each quarter into a long tube, then square off the sides Place one plain tube beside one chocolate tube for the first row, then top with the alternating colours for the second row.
