Girl Scouts Lawsuit Against City of Hazelwood, MO Thrown Out

August 20, 2011

A Girl Scouts lawsuit filed against the city of Hazelwood, Mo. has been thrown out by St. Louis County Circuit Judge Maura McShane. Carolyn Mills filed the suit on behalf of her daughters Caitlin and Abigain, who were told earlier this summer by city officials that they weren't permitted to sell Girl Scout cookies on their driveway due to zoning requirements.

The officials told Mills that she had to obtain a business license; when her application was denied, she filed a lawsuit against the city. Although the lawsuit has been thrown out of court, the current codes haven't been amended, which means that future Girl Scouts in Hazelwood could run into trouble with city officials.
