Nourishing Homemade Baby Formula

June 16, 2011

In the debate over whether breast milk is best for babies, keep this one fact in mind; we are mammals! And like all other mammals, the young are meant to drink their mother's milk. Even so, plenty of infants will end up on formula for a variety of reasons. Most store bought formula is full of synthetic nutrients, GMO ingredients, and poor quality oils. A baby would be much better served by a high quality, nutrient dense formula.

Sarah Pope, a Weston A Price chapter leader had created this video to show you how to make your own nourishing formula made with whole foods. According to the Weston A. Price Foundation, if a baby cannot breastfeed, "use clean, whole raw milk from old-fashioned cows, certified free of disease, that feed on green pasture. For sources of good quality milk, see www.realmilk.com or contact a local chapter of the Weston A. Price Foundation. If the only choice available to you is commercial milk, choose whole milk, preferably organic and unhomogenized, and culture it with a piima or kefir culture to restore enzymes (available from G.E.M. Cultures 253-588-2922 or http://www.gemcultures.com)."

Editor's note: The safety of raw milk for both children and adults is widely debated. Before introducing raw milk, or any new food to your child, we strongly recommend consulting your pediatrician.

I am again astounded by your claims . First of all feeding a baby raw milk is Russian Roulette at it's best. Second of all your tone may lead a mother to try this dangerous practice by your assertion that it is a better formula ..which it may be if the baby doesn't die from listeria.

Rancid oils? Did she really say in the video that manufacturers use rancid oils. I think not!!!

I also take exception to the fact that you have laid a guilt trip on mothers who can not afford raw milk and all the ingredients needed to make this concoction plus the time involved...this may be an alternative method but I don't think you can say it is a better method.

I believe that this may be harmful to any infant and any one considering this formula should first visit their child's Pediatrician and a certified Nutritionist that is trusted by their doctor. I believe that any Doctor and Nutritionist would have an issue with this woman's claims. Be forewarned Don't begin this unless you first consult your infant's Pediatrician!

I also used Formula the commercial brands with both of my boys and I don't believe that our Government with their strict food laws would allow poor quality ingredients to be used in infant formula.
